“Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils sound like they made a serendipitous wrong turn on their way to the juke joint and wound up in a countrypolitan cathedral instead. It’s beautiful and ever so haunting. Westwood’s voice is sexy and strong as it applies the seduction over the band’s groove and thoughtful reserve…..And the Handsome Devils lay it down as pretty as their golden haired captain. It’s honky-tonk with a little less honky. It’s atmospheric yet immediate and approachable. It packs a wallop” – Rochester City Newspaper
At the heart of the band is Jennifer Westwood and guitarist Dylan Dunbar, who share an affection for gospel, Texas blues, Stax, and Muscle Shoals era artists. Jennifer cut her teeth on gospel in Detroit before hitting the gritty local bars that set her career in motion; along the way performing back up for acts including Motown’s Carl Carlton, adding several Detroit Music Awards to her credit, including one for work with Sponge (Sony) frontman Vin Dombroski on a traditional country recording (Lalar V).
Dylan Dunbar spent his teen years refining his chops in local blues joints, moving on to perform with W.C. Handy award winners such as Chef Chris and Johnny “Yard Dog” Jones, as well as country artist Whitey Morgan. His dynamic playing style is a compliment to Jennifer’s broad vocal range and unique sound that invokes influences ranging from Linda Ronstadt to Big Mama Thorton.
The last couple years have seen them performing across the country rather than at home in the rustbelt, growing a family of fans from New York to Texas. They’ve been on bills with acts such as Hayes Carll, Paul Thorn, Dale Watson, Delbert McClinton, and have performed alongside Patti Smith (with her bandmates backing Smith as well); grateful for every opportunity the road has afforded them.
Fully embracing the character and spirit of Detroit, they consider it an honor to represent a talent filled city of rugged determination, faith and hard working people.
Katelyn Corrl will open the show.
Katelynn Corll is a drummer (artist: sE Electronics, Aquarian Drumheads, Orthopedic Drum Thrones), vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist based out of metro Detroit, Michigan. As a multi-instrumentalist, she has been fortunate enough to have performed with projects of all different genres. For a long period in her musical career, she was the lead singer and drummer for an all-girl modern rock band called Blood and Wine (formerly known as The Imps). Through this project she founded back in 2011, she was given the opportunity to work with several well known names in LA including multi-platinum producer Jeff Blue (Linkin Park, Korn, etc.), Chad Schlosser of Drac Studios (Slash, Guns N’ Roses, Mastodon, ZZ Top, etc.), and Oumi Kapila of Filter. That recording experience is one that has influenced and shaped the musician and writer she is today, as well as the opportunity to drum Candlebox’s hit song “Far Behind” live with them in January of 2018.
While the COVID pandemic brought so much uncertainty and loss in the industry, it was also when Katelynn was brought in to drum for Chloe Moriondo. Since June 2020, she has been fortunate enough to have performed on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Sad Summer Festival, and toured supporting Ashnikko (Oct 2021).
