Ten of the Michigan music industry’s most successful female artists are coming together to perform for one night at the inaugural Jill Jack’s Eleanorfest, a celebration of women in music Saturday, May 2 at the historic Redford Theatre in Redford, Mich. This festival will benefit Trinity House, an intimate performance space that nurtures and celebrates singer songwriters, in Livonia, Mich.
WDET’s Ann Delisi will host the event where Carolyn Striho, Thornetta Davis, Annie Capps, Kimmie Horne, Jennifer Westwood, Audra Kubat, Ms. Carmen, The Accidentals, Olivia Dear (formerly Millerschin) and Jill Jack will each perform two songs, backed by the Jill Jack Band, and then join together for a grand finale.
Jill Jack’s Eleanorfest is looking to add one more young lady to the bill for the evening. “I remember when I was first starting out, I was selected to perform at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival,” said Jill Jack, performer and co-producer of the Eleanorfest. “Looking back, I remember the feeling during the finale of sharing the stage with Emmy Lou Harris, Shawn Colvin and Patti Griffin, feeling like it was a dream. To this day, it is still one of my fondest memories of starting my journey in music. Without an opportunity like that one, I don’t know if I would’ve achieved these incredible moments I’ve had in my career. Jill Jack’s Eleanorfest is based in community and building opportunities for singers and songwriters just starting out.”
GRL PWR is a singer-songwriter competition for young ladies between the ages of 12 and 21 to compete for one coveted spot to perform at Jill Jack’s Eleanorfest on May 2 at the historic Redford Theatre. Contestants are encouraged to send a video of themselves performing to info@eleanorfest.com. If selected to move on to the competition, they will also be asked to fill out a short questionnaire and receive parental consent before performing live at Trinity House, hosted by Jill Jack, on March 15.
The young lady selected will be chosen by a panel of high-profile judges in the business and entertainment industry, including Bill Keith, president of the Trinity House Theatre Board; producer and musician Nadir Omowale; and Kristina Rinaldi, director of Detroit Dog Rescue. Contestants will be reviewed and selected by judges based on stage presence, confidence, and talent. Each artist will perform one original song providing their own instrumentation (guitar, ukulele, keyboard, etc. – no tracks allowed).
The winning artist will perform one song live at Jill Jack’s Eleanorfest as well as rehearse and perform the Allee Willis tribute finale with all of the other ladies on the bill. The winner of GRL PWR will also be added to all of the marketing elements of the show. This young lady will also receive four tickets to Jill Jack’s Eleanorfest.
GRL PWR takes place at Trinity House (38840 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Mich., 48152) March 15; doors open at 2:30 p.m. and show begins at 3p.m. A suggested $5 minimum donation is requested.
